Our vision trip to Haiti......

Jennifer and I have talked and talked about how we can help the orphan crisis.
What can we do?
We truly felt God was calling us to start an orphan ministry at our church, Ivy Creek.
But WHAT do you do with an orphan ministry,
HOW do we start,
WHERE do we start,
WHEN do we start????
We knew it had to be in God's timing, so we did a lot of praying and more talking.
We really felt we needed to find an orphanage that we could build a close relationship with.
One that we would know, think of, and pray for regularly.  As well as them know us.
The documentary "STUCK" was on tour and had come to Atlanta for a showing.
This is an amazing movie that I STRONGLY recommend EVERYONE to see.
It is about the international adoption process being way too hard, lasting way too long and being way too expensive.  The director is really trying to change the process and ask government officials to change the laws and make it easier.  The bottom line is that there are 147 million orphans in this world, but when someone looks into the amount of years it may take and the amount of money they will spend, many change their mind and decide not to adopt.
Some may still go through with it and their children grow up in an orphanage thousands of miles away, until they are finally able to get them home.
These children are "Stuck".........all do to the process.
Ok, so back to the reason I am talking about this......
Jennifer met the director of "Stuck" and wanted to ask him about Haiti and get more information on it and the possibility of us finding an orphanage there to work with.
He immediately got us in contact with an amazing woman, to say the least, who just so happens to be his wife.
This woman saw the need in Haiti when they were there adopting their children and has since started an organization "Chances For Children".
They have done some unbelievable work in Haiti, from having roads paved, to helping orphanages rebuild and become stable, to building and running a creche for the children who are eligible for adoption, as well as building a clinic, and raising money and sponsorships for the children to have adequate food and schooling.
They have educated the community and it is becoming a self-sustaining community!
Jennifer and I were able to talk with her on the phone and we loved everything she had to say.
So we plan to start our orphan ministry here, with the hopes of it growing into a great relationship with this orphanage/creche.
Our next step is to reach out to domestic orphans, later we hope to help with the adoption process from start to finish, and eventually having a grant to help couples wanting to adopt!
Please pray for us!
We are only wanting to full fill God's will in this ministry.  Pray we always have clarity and discernment in the many directions we hope to take!
